a lot of headaches in the end, so the extra fee you pay to the agent is worth it. However, if you use a travel agency, there may be a few restrictions and you will not have as much control over your vacation. Planning on your own is a lot of work, but it can be done.
You need a place to stay, so your first step should be researching various accommodations in Cancun's hotel zone. Pictures online can be deceiving, so look for reviews from people who have traveled to this area before. Don't be afraid to call and ask many questions about the hotels in which you are interested. Word of mouth can also be handy here, so talk to your friends and family who have traveled to Cancun and stayed at one of the hotels. When you book the room, be very specific about the accommodations you want and ask them to repeat back the information to you so you can be sure your reservation is not lost.
You will also need to get to Cancun. You must have proper paperwork to get into Mexico, so research the things you need to enter the country. Also be sure to book a flight that brings you right into the city, because you may or may not be able to find transportation to your hotel immediately. It is also important to learn about rules regarding what you can and cannot take in and out of Mexico.
Lastly, you will need to plan things to do and places to eat. You can decide when you are there in a spur of the moment fashion, but by then the best restaurants may be full and the tours may be booked. Plan ahead, but leave plenty of room for flexibility.
Flexibility is the key when traveling to Cancun. Remember that no vacation will be perfect, but try to make the best of every situation and realize that your vacation to Cancun will go much more smoothly if you begin preparing for it many months in advance.
